The confusion of RTDS test engineers:

As seen above, a complete RTDS simulation test consists of eight segments. RTDS test personnel, however, a large amount of time (nearly 95%) of whom will be occupied by the heavy and repetitive operation shown in unit (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7). Taking the line protection test as an example, on the premise of each item without repetition, RTDS test personnel has to do the repetitive operation on step②③④⑤⑥⑦ more than 1300 times. As far as concerned, the step eight – analyzing the action result, is the most important part of the process, while the RTDS tester were disturbed a lot by the repetitive operations. KP-F8 FUNCTION INTRODUCTION

1 RTDS Control Model

RTDS contains kinds of universal control model developed autonomously, such as fault control, circuit breaker control, TV break control, TA break control and oscillation control, etc. All the control model can cooperate with the model in primary system flexibly to carry out the system dynamic simulation.

Universal control model: failure control, circuit breaker control, TV break control, TA break control and oscillation control, etc.

General control model can be applied to all kinds of RTDS in power system, such as 110 kV power line, 220 kV line, 500 kV line, 110 kV three-winding transformer (or two-winding transformer), 220 kV three-winding transformer, 500 kV autotransformer, 110 kV double bus, 220 kV double bus and double bus with one segmentation, 500 kV half-switch bus and so on.

2 Automatic Testing Software

RTDS can carry out the test according to the test sequence, which is generated automatically based on the RTDS Script language to meet the test requirements.

Automatic test software can generate the corresponding test list file automatically according to the test objectives and contents, and then it can carry out the test automatically by using RUN Script function, which is used for adjusting various components and relevant variables automatically, finally, the software would auto save the test waveform generated by RTDS for analysis. At present, the test software can automatically complete all the test items, such as the bus, lines and transformers, which are ordered by national standard or industrial standard of power system.



Metallic Fault, power converse, permanent fault, reclose and fault, evolving-fault, Internal and external Fault through Resistance, system oscillation and fault during power swing, loop opening and manual closing fault, system frequency deviation, weak feed test, TA breaking, TV breaking, transient overreach, TA saturation, etc.

3 Waveform Analysis Software

Waveform analysis software can automatically open the RTDS waveform file, record the action time of the relay protection products, and provide the function of configuration analysis.

4 Information Auto-collection and Arrangement System

The system can automatically collect the action message of relay protection products and analyze the related test information to generate the complete documentation.

There are a variety of RTDS simulation test, for example, 220 kV three-winding transformer, 500 kV autotransformer, 110 kV double bus, 220 kV double bus and double bus with one segmentation, 500 kV half-switch bus and so on.

5 Automatic Testing Software

In order to automatically collect and collate information on the relay protection device and the recorder, the system need to read the database of relay protection fault information master station firstly, next, collect and arrange automatically the message of relay protection and record file of oscillograph. Meanwhile, the system should gather all the action messages recorded by RTDS and save it to a specific test record database. The system support two ways of classification, which are on the basis of the test items or the type of relay protection products. When doing the test for various type of relay protection (such as the net test), this particular feature will be beneficial a lot to test record sorting, problem query and comparison that between different products acting to the same fault.
