Research and Application of Digital Twin Technology in Relay Protection 2025/2/7 0:00:00

The RTDT Relay Protection Digital Twin System, independently developed by KETOP Simulation, creates digital models of protection devices by digitally modeling their protection principles and data interfaces. These models operate in real-time on dedicated hardware, exhibiting the same external characteristics as actual protection devices, and embody the key features of consistency, interactivity, transparency, and shareability.

The system comprises a virtual protection HMI, intelligent interface devices, and a digital twin computing unit. The HMI is responsible for secondary equipment modeling, computing unit control, protection interface simulation, and virtual station-level services, communicating with the computing unit via the intelligent interface devices. The computing unit executes real-time calculations of virtual protection logic, SV publishing/subscription, and GOOSE publishing/subscription. The intelligent interface devices manage the interaction of SV, GOOSE, analog, and digital signals.

The RTDT system has been successfully applied in scenarios such as laboratory system-level testing and smart fault recorder testing. It has been trialed by multiple users, demonstrating advanced technical indicators and reliable operational performance .
